Course Content

The course aims:

- to develop language and communicative skills for use in the context of negotiations; to practise oral skills in ‘authentic’ business negotiation scenarios,

- to practise general writing skills in the form of a report concerning a business case study/dilemma or recommendation to solve a problem,

- to give a brief introduction to legal/contractual English terminology.

The course will include the following content:

Negotiations

- negotiating theory, language of negotiations, including functional phrases and ‘softening’ techniques.

Legal Terminology

- introduction of basic legal language, primarily in the context of contracts, based on the assumption that negotiations generally lead to contractual agreements.

Business Case Studies

- analysis of business case studies/dilemmas in both spoken and written form; general discussion on a variety of topics involving decision making and problem solving.

Intended Learning Outcomes and Competencies

The development and consolidation of oral and written language skills at an advanced level.

Instruction Type

Workshop-style teaching in small groups of up to 14 participants.
